In this installment, we’ve “Super-Sized” the drives and motors (we were still able to stall the motor!) and ran some initial tests of speed and accuracy.

The ball screw is rated at .004″/12″ lead accuracy and we didn’t run it that far or have an indicator at the extreme of travel, but wanted to see how we’d do with backlash and repeatability.
As you can kind of see from the low-quality video clip (we’ll get a better video camera, promise!), there it was accurate and the reloaded ballnut yielded zero backlash.
Do you have some code for us to try out? The max X/Y travel would be 12″/8″ respectively (for good measure until we install the limit switches). Feel free to send us an email or just post some simple code in the comments box. We prefer tests of rapid moves, btw :)’
