7x Mini-Lathe Spindle Same As X2 Mini-Mill

It appeared that we didn’t tension the belt enough (funny that Sieg doesn’t mention belt tensioning or even with the 8x for that matter..) and over the many months of abusing it, it was finally time to take it apart and see what’s going on.

After removing the sheet metal motor cover we can see the motor and timing pulley. In order to gain access to the motor mounts, you have to also remove the four philips screws for the front of the lathe where the motor controls are.

In order to gain access to the larger timing pulley (basically the intermediate gear/train) you also have to remove the two allen/socket head cap screws that hold the top portion of the gear train (sorry, no pictures!). But after removing that, you’ll see this:

Here’s the view from the “bottom” or “front” depending on your mill/lathe viewpoint:

The major part of the castings are identical with the exception of the face where it mates with the bed.’,’
