You’ve read our rant about the cheapo magnetic bases from a previous post right?
Well, we ordered 3 Noga holders using a sweet 20% off coupon from Enco. We purchased two of the bottom fine adjustment arms in two different length arms and one top fine adjustment base. They are indicated (ahem) by the FAT and BAT monikers.
We notice right off the bat that the arms are of solid build, the magnetic switch feels smooth and the arm actually locks (we had a serpentine arm version that could never lock quite right).
The one other test we really wanted to try was magnetic pull. Our cheapos could barely lift a handful of paper clips and subsequently was useless unless used as a paper weight.
What impressed us was the pull was great! Can’t remember if it was the 70 pound or over 100 pound pull. In any event, it stuck well to our Mori MS-850 predecessor lathe’s turret. Notice the amount of contact?
Money well spent!
We’ll be writing up a small review on these models and how to use them. We bought three because we quite frankly were confused by all the models available sold through Enco and MSC Direct, never mind the actual models available by NOGA! (Head spinning…).
